Orchid 7

I thought I'll stop painting orchid, but this image always lingering in my mind. In some typical Chinese paintings, orchid, bamboo and plum flowers are great combination. I thought I also should paint one with orchid and bamboo.

Orchid 6

I found orchid is a very difficult subject to paint. I have many designs in my mind and reject all of them because I feel they will turn out to be very ordinary paintings.

This is the last one in the series.

Orchid 5

This is about orchid in a wild field.

I found big painting is very taxing for daily paintings and take a small size for this one.

My Masterpiece

No painting today, but I still have a masterpiece to show off. This is my 8 month old daughter with me. She is a very happy girl and that makes my life a lot easier.

Today I brought her to see her doctor for a routine checkup and that is the reason for no painting day.

Orchid 4

This is inspired by the Kebaya dress worn by Singapore Airline girl. If you are familiar with Singapore Airline, you know that the air stewardess wears the sexy Kebaya dress. The Kebaya dress was invented by Peranakan people who were the early Chinese immigrants that married Malay people. You can see the influence of Chinese Qi Bao in the dress.

Some of the design of Kebaya involving Orchid patels.

Orchid Series 1

Singapore is the place that I have lived for the longest time except my home. I left home to study when I was only 13 years old.

Orchid is the national flower for Singapore. I think I'd like to challenge myself for this new project to paint 5 or 6 orchid paintings.

All these paintings will be in size: 11.5 x 8.5. But I may change it if I find the design needs to have different size.

Sea View and Changes in eBay Singapore

This work is inspired by the following photo:
I guess many of us using photo references for our work.

Today I just found that Singapore Ebay starts charging fees now. It used to be free. I didn't sell anything through Singapore Ebay. The viewing is very low. Basically very few Singaporean are buying art through Singapore Ebay. I guess I'll stop listing in Singapore eBay now. But I'll continue to do in US or other eBay.

Vase and Jade

I love vase and Jade. I want to learn how to do ceramic very much. But as my baby is too small, I don't want to leave her to take lessons.

Jade is amazing, it gets so different when it is old comparing to new one. The colors and the patterns are very intricate.

I put them here in this painting. It is a new design for me and it's fun!

Gazing in acrylic is a breeze because it is very transparent and also won't mess up the colors underneath. I use several gazing here.

I try to create printmaking effect on the red part. I think it is quite successful. What I did is that I paint the bright red first. Then I add red tint with black. Before this layer gets too dry, I use a tissue paper to rubber it. It is a nice effect.

Small Houses 6 and Artist Style

This is the last one of the series. This house is in front of a peaceful lake.

I love to paint some more, but I think I'll do it again some other time. Now I want to explore some other interesting ideas. I cannot stick on one thing for long.

This reminds about an issue that I'm always thinking. What is the artist style and how do I have one? Will I have one for someone like me always attracted to new possibilities?

Today I found that one artist that I like suddenly posts a painting that is totally different from her usual style. It is so freshing.

I see some artists who always use one style and you won't get bored with it. One of them is my favorite artist Marcella Paliekara. I like her delicate and dreaming style and always find surprises, interesting and beauty in her new paintings.

There are certain qualities in the style I guess that make the style work. Some style may be surprisingly beautiful initially, but with long run, it gets bored. But some will not.

Small Houses 5

This small houses painting has no tree, but with fields of flowers.

A typical Chinese painting of spring is a small village surrounded by sea of the plantation of yellow flowers for eatable oil. This painting is inspired by this type of paintings instilled in my mind when I was just a little girl.

I am thinking of stopping at 6 of this series. But not sure, maybe more. I really love to paint them. I think I am just a little women that loves cute and adorable things. Not like some of my male artist friends, they like to paint city space with high buildings and sea space with big boat. I love small things.

Jane Austin wrote small intricate feelings in very detail that makes you smile from your heart. Leo Tolstoy wrote about war and passionate love that makes you breathless with tears. They are all beautiful, aren't they?

Small Houses 3

SOLD
This is the third of the small house series. It is a wooden one. Recently, I develop liking of patterns specially the oriental ones. I found that patterns are so powerful and beautiful. The flower is a type of pattern that I really love.

I was thought of painting a big one today. But after design the picture, I feel the size 5 x 11 still the best that suits the topic. Now this is the third one with the same size. I plan to paint at least 2 more with the same size and also about little houses.

Just a note about buying from Dawanda. My price of the same painting in Dawanda is 30 euro. I thought 1 euro is $1.5. But actually it is about $1.4. Thus, it is cheap to buy from my Dawanda shop.

I try to list more in Dawanda because it is free listing there.

Small Houses 2 and my art selling story

I am working on another large piece of commission work today. This is another small house I painted while waiting for the large work paper to dry. I guess I can have a small or little house series soon. I already have three including this one. Adding 3 more will be good enough to have the series.

As indicated in the title, I'd like to share some good news about selling my art.

I am putting my paintings in Etsy, Dawanda and RedBubble. Dawanda is a new site comparing to Etsy. I didn't sell anything there yet. But, the good thing is that the administrator there somehow picked my three paintings to be displayed in the first page of art, in the acrylic paintings section, at the moment. Because of that, I have many viewings to my paintings.

In RedBubble , there is one group called Masterpiece Art. It contains the best paintings from the participating artists. My Girl Making Tea was chosen as the group icon at the moment. Well, I just checked again, it is replaced by some other painting just now.

All these plus the customers that want me to do commission work are great encouragement to me.

As long as I can create new and beautiful work, plus some recognitions somewhere, life is beautiful.

Small Houses

Having painted the horizontal sunflower and pears, I found the irregular size of painting is very interesting.

This is a long small painting. I always like small houses. They are so cute and adorable. Once I was planning to paint a small house series, but was attracted to something else. I guess I just need to paint them when I am passionate about them.

Sunflower and Pears

This is the commission work that I am working on these days. It is a horizontal version of my Sunflower and Pears.

I like what I produced very much. It is much more beautiful than my two small ones of the same topic due to its size.

You need to take special care when painting large piece of watercolor. I kept running back and forth from my bathroom to my studio to wash brushes and change water to prevent generating muddy colors. You specially have to be careful after using yellow, red or earth colors.

But the final result makes me feel that all efforts are worth it, especially when your art customer also loves it.

Commission work

Back from new year holiday, I start work on a large commission piece. It may take up 2 to 3 days for me to finish. I'll put it up when it is finished.

I am so happy that one of my old customers wants me to do this piece of work.
