Order the Pendant
I was busy making the glass pendants over the weekend. I love this little petite rectangle glass pendant made from the painting
Owl Flower. It is very small and you can wear it inside your shirt. It measures about
1" x 0.5" /2.5 x 1.2 cm. The pendant is shipped with a pretty jewelry box so that you can straight away give as a gift.
The back of the pendant is backed with beautiful hand-made papers and sealed with water-resistant sealant.
It's time for another ride on the merry-go-round! Jump on and join a group of 9 artists/crafts-women as they link around the world and tell you a little about their lives in art and craft.
This month topic is: Inspirational Photo Challenge. We take a photo of something that inspires you and show what you make from this as your inspiration.
I took the above photo near my house. It is a very old tree facing the sea. It reminds me of the book "One Hundred Years of Solitude". The paintings for the photo is thus named as "Solitude".
I made two versions of the painting. One is original watercolor and another is computer illustration.
I like pen and ink drawing with watercolor very much and this is one of the first few of the watercolor paintings with pen and ink. I would like to explore more on this type of painting in future.
Order the PrintThe print allows me to incorporate some flower patters in the grass. I like the effect.
I hope you enjoy reading this post. Please do visit other merry-go-around blogger to find out more about the topic.
I feel that the brown version of
Sisters lacking a bit of background. I add some background to this version. It is more interesting I think.
Today is my birthday. Thank you all my friends for all the best wishes. I also just found that one of the best birthday gifts from Dawanda that I am the top popular member again. What a surprise!
The popular members are changing all the time. I wish this status can last through my birthday.
The laptop skin is:
This is inspired by a photo from a fashion magazine. I bought the magazine from the Shanghai airport last year. I liked the magazine very much and felt that it can inspire me to do some work, although I have no concrete ideas what would come out then.
I am thinking of using the two girls to do a painting for a long time. I like the posture of the two girls. Finally I feel that it may be a good idea to let them sit on a tree when seeing beautiful pink flower trees everywhere everyday in Singapore.
The girls details
If you are in the spring mood and like girls, the laptop skin is a good choice.
Friday again. I am so happy. I'll be out to shopping this afternoon with my baby.
This is laptop skin that I just made for a customer from the
Little Flower Collage. I found that the Chinese Calligraphy from Chairman Mao Zhe Dong turns out very nice. I like the style of his calligraphy that is free flowing, romantic like dancing.
The meaning of the word is :"How beautiful the scenery of the country that so many heroes become humble in front of it".
I am looking forward for another chance to cooperate Chinese calligraphy into my work.
It is an interesting and unique laptop skin.
I got a new printer over the weekend. It is an Epson T40W printer. My old printer gives me a lot of problem lately. You need to print a half page image before the colors are getting right. It makes me wast a lot of time and papers. I thought I might just change it.
I am very happy with the new printer. It is with the range of printers from Epson with pigment ink. It is superb when printing on matte or semi-glossy papers. The colors are fantastic. The best thing is that it uses pigment ink thus all my glass pendant images are safe when they are attached to the glass tiles, i.e. the image will not smudge.
The printer doesn't vibrate very hard as comparing to the other printers that I have used from Epson. This is good because I put the printer on my desk and it would make you feel very unconformable if it vibrates too much.
It can be used wirelessly, meaning that you can print image without linking a cord from my laptop to the printer. But it needs some effort to set it up. I am still working on this. It would be good that I don't have to plug the cord every-time I try to print.
The image shown on my laptop screen is the Owl Green Print. I was working on a layout for a print.
My experience of selecting a printer is summarized as the follows.
For an artist, the quality of image is the most important factor when selecting a printer. The quality depends on the types of image you have. If you print mostly large photos, you need to look at those dye based ink printers with many ink cartridges. If you print small photos or art work, you can select other type of printer.
The another features affecting the quality of image are "Max Print Resolution" and "Min Ink Droplet Size". I found that "Max Print Resolution" is almost the same for all the printers, but Min Ink Droplet Size varies from printer to printer. The T40W is 2pl. The number is the smaller the better. I tried something of 4pl printer. The image is obviously coarse. You cannot tell much difference if the image is printed on big size papers. But when it is printed on small one such as the size of a glass tile, when I put it under the glass tile, I feel a bit dizzy when I look at it.
If you are not printing super large size image, I believe that most of the printers can meet your requirement. But do select the Min Ink Droplet Size with at least 3 or smaller if you need to print small image that can fit into a glass tile.
I have spent a lot of time processing orders these days while trying to get some idea of doing some more paintings.
Have a nice weekend everyone!
To make this glass pendant, I moved a bit of the design so that it fits nicely into the round shaped glass tile. I think I really like the pendant. It is so charming. The round shape fits the painting better than the square one.
Baby's Work
Baby's one school term is finished for 2010. She has her art work brought back from her school. They are really lovely. I can see that many techniques are involved in creating the art work such as collage using color paper, magazine cut out and printing using hand, circle or other objects. The teachers are excellent in teaching 2 year old art.
Thanks to
Jan Iving's suggestion that they Early summer is nice to be made in magnet. I paired it with
Bird Pond and they look very pretty.
I am still working on the Early Summer. I feel that the girl is nice if it is covered a bit with some flower in her shoulder and some texture in her neck and face as well. Here it is, I guess it should be the final version.
I made these two LPWB for a customer order today. They look very pretty. The LPWBs measures 8 x 20"/20 x 25 cm. I think they are very sweet as gifts.
The back view of the LPWB
My husband told me that he likes the girl without solid hair as in the first post of
Early Summer. It is as the follows:
I wonder which one you like the better. I found it lacks a bit contrast without the solid hair. To compromise I lower a bit of the hair tone and add the lines for the hair as in the first image. But I do like the second image as well as it gives more romantic atmosphere.
I created my profile in the local Singapore art gallery
Fill Your Wall. I uploaded some big original paintings there as they are too heavy to be shipped outside Singapore. My gallery is at
HERE.
I found many interesting paintings and artist there. One of them is
Sri Rages. She is very hard-working and bold artist with many beautiful creations. I hope you enjoy her work.
Last but not the least the new laptop skin.
My baby didn't go to school the whole week due to the hand foot and mouth disease case in her school. She talks more and more complete sentences now. Suddenly she likes to say "Hear me mommy, I want this, Hear me mommy I want that". If I don't react quickly enough to her request, she will repeatably says "Hear me". So funny.
Have a nice weekend everyone!
I managed to finish the Early Summer. I did a bit modification from yesterday's version. I just feel that the hair is better to be solid. I also raised the girl a bit higher to have a better layout.
The details of the girl
The details of the Ground
The ground is a messy structure from my pencil drawing.
If you like to day dream and love to be enchanted in a romantic land, this laptop skin is a choice for you.
This is the print is just produced today from painting
In the Garden. It measures 31 x 47cm and has a lamination on top of the print. I like the look and feel of the print. It looks really beautiful.
Mixed Media @Ang Ping Ping
It was very hot these days in Singapore. The school that my baby goes has several cases of Hand, Foot and Mouse disease. My baby has to stay at home for several days to avoid contracting the disease. She doesn't feel well with running nose today. I send her to the KK Women and Children Hospital to see her patrician to make sure she is fine. Over there I was very happy to see a real painting of Ang Ping Ping a Singaporean painter in the children clinic. From an interview about her work, she said that a lot of her work is inspired by her toddler son. Ya, you can feel it, don't you? I like her work very much and you can find out more about her work at Singapore's local online art gallery
Fill Your Wall
My baby is fine just with a minor flu.
Work in Progress "Early Summer"
I just squeezed sometime to start this painting "Early Summer". I am not sure how the name came up. The recent hot weather and some news reports of early starting of summer in certain parts of the world may trigger the name. Anyway I think it is a romantic name.
