Continue working on yesterday's painting, I found that the flower is too ridged, I flood the flower with a large amount of clear water and diffuse the part a bit. The middle part and the pomegranates are also emphasized. I extended the white flower from the vase to the table and books. It looks interesting and connected now.

Although I don't eat  pomegranates usually because of the trouble to take out the seeds, I love the color and shapes of pomegranates and bought two of them when I saw them in supermarket.

 I managed to setup a still life with the two pomegranates and daffodils for the watercolor painting. Painting is half on the way. Hope to finish it tomorrow.

I like the gray and red color combination when I saw a picture from a newspaper. As I love to paint orchid, I put a setting of orchid for this painting witht the same color scheme.

Summer Time Still Life Original Watercolor Painting

I had this beautiful watercolor paper I bought from China. It is very cheap comparing to the ones that I bought from Singapore that are made in England or US. But I love it, it allows me to paint with sutle and beautiful gray colors.

This painting can be made a due with my "Harvest Time" painting.

Hydrangea

I love the colors of purple and yellow. They just glow when you put them together.

This is an unusual arrangement of the still life. Initially I try to put them together nicely as usual still life painting would do. But later I felt it was a bit boring and came up with this arrangement. I think if the right part moves up more, it would be more interesting.

I like to paint still life. You don't worry about the accuracy of the objects. You only need to paint the right mood, colors and the feeling.

Harvest Time

Painting watercolor needs the right mood. I am not in that mood for watercolor all the time. But today I think I have to do something because I am under pressure.

The Etsy watercolor team has a September challenge. It is due on Sept. 18th. If I don't do it now I am not sure if I'll meet the deadline.

The original photo for us to paint is a pile of pumpkins.
I thought it would be fun to add some flowers.

This is the first time I try on the new paper I brought from China for still-life painting. I found the paper is just fantastic. It is much better than some other expensive ones. I should have brought more.

If you find that my style is so much different from previous ones, I think it is because I am painting still-life. I found that the methods that I use to paint still-life is very different from painting landscapes.

Orchid and Quinacridone Colors

I went to the town yesterday. I normally go to visit the town around the famous Singapore orchard road area for dinner, meeting friends, buying art supplies or simply to take a walk. It is very good sometime to get the modern and metropolitan feeling. The creativeness seeping from everywhere in the town reminds me that whatever I do, I must try to learn to do it in an innovative way.I am so excited that I bought a tube of Quinacridone Rose yesterday. I always want to try the Quinacridone colors because they are very bright, but cannot find any in the shops. This is the only tube I can find. I should try to buy them from Internet next time because it is really good. Look at the orchid with quinacridone rose, it is so bright.
This still life is inspired by a photo of a women with a red Chinese Cheongsam in a fashion magazine. I like to put orchid with an oriental structure such as the window.
